Chemical. Like new plastic and whatever they use to make it not rot. There's a faint smell of other dogs underneath, which is almost interesting, but the plastic smell ruins it. Do you have any treats?

Dad

You seemed reluctant to try it. What happened when you did?

Boldo

I sat in it for exactly forty-three seconds before I realized the door closes and you can actually lock me in there. The bottom is smooth and slippery—no grip. I did not enjoy that realization. Is the cat getting one of these too, or just me?

Dad

Anything about this that actually impressed you? Be honest.

Boldo

Fine. The ventilation is real. I can breathe. And it's heavy enough that it doesn't slide around in the car when you turn. The handle is fine. I don't want to say more than that.

Dad

Final verdict. Don't hold back.

It does what it's supposed to do. You can get me to the vet in it without me escaping. The smell fades after a few days. I still don't like being locked in a box, but if you're going to force me to ride somewhere, this is acceptable. That's all you're getting.
